Olives and Olive Oil

Olives contain predominantly monounsaturated fat, which decreases 'bad' cholesterol and increases the 'good' type. Olives also contain Vitamin E - a potent antioxidant involved in protecting body cells from the damaging effects of oxidation.

Olives have been used in Mediterranean appetisers for thousands of years.  The primary producers of olive oil are Spain, Italy, Greece, Tunisia, Turkey, Syria, Morocco, and Algeria. Spanish and Italian olive oils dominate international markets.

Olive oil is high in monounsaturated fats (the "good" fats) and high in anti-oxidants, and is therefore recommended by health experts.
