Hummus & Dips
Original Hummus with a dash of lemon
Hummus is used throughout the Middle East, the Mediterranean and Arab world. Hummus is actually the Arabic word for chickpea. It is commonly used with Tahini, a touch of olive oil, some paprika and served with pita and a plate of pickles. It is often served as a dip for veggies or as a sauce on meats and fish.
You'll find as many pronunciations of Hummus as there are claims to its origin. In New Zealand we say ha-mus, whilst in the Middle East the H is a guttural i.e Choumous is the common form. But in whatever language it is a wonderful form of entertaining friends and family.
