To Preserve or Not

As we are all aware, the summer heat and the distribution chain to consumers does cause products to deteriorate quickly and not to fulfil their best by dates. In selling our fresh dips we are acutely aware of this and have significant pollcies of distribution and shelf management to see to it that the freshest possible product makes it into your home.

This summer we've added a minimal amount of Potassium Sorbate (E number 202) to those of our products which have needed it.

If you aren't familiar with potassium sorbate it is a salt version of sorbic acid, a polyunsaturated fat used to inhibit mould growth. It has been repeatedly tested for safety and efficacy since the 1950's and to date stands as one of the most thoroughly tested food additives in history. Potassium Sorbate has been found to be non-toxic even in large quantities, and breaks down in the body into water and carbon dioxide in the Krebs Cycle.

We feel it is the most naturally occurring nutrient we could offer our consumers, to ensure product integrity and enhance the freshness of our product.

It needs to be recognised that the majority of dip products sold to New Zealanders contain some form of preservative. But should you choose a product completely free of preservative we have recently launched our new Organic range which contains no preservative whatever.
